Hello, my name is Andrew Jara. I am trying to be a writer/director. I made a film named "Last Days" that i'm trying to bring some press to.

Number 10:  A boy and his dog
Spoiler-free plot: A boy, Vic,  (Don Johnson) tries to survive in a post-apocalytpic world with the help of his trusty dog, Blood. Blood is also telepathic.
Why it’s so weird (Possible Spoilers) : Okay as you can see this one fits into the “weird protagonist” category.  As Blood is a telepathic dog but also Vic is portrayed as a rapist.  As a matter of fact, at the beginning the deal is Vic looks for food while Blood tries to find women the Vic can rape.  The story is also a bit crazy and without me ruining too much it involves underground cities, crazy cults, and artificial insemination. The ending is really where things get weird but it’s one of the reasons I like the film.  As weird as this movie is, the main theme of it is friendship and loyalty, although a warped vision of it. Give it a look, although keep in mind that it is a satire and comedy on sex and male/female representations. I have heard many people say that the film is misogynistic and thus are missing the point.  The characters are this way but the film asks to wonder why?  Again as a satire, I think it’s meant to make you think more than offend.  Check it out.

This is my last article for He-Man month but i’ll still write about him.  It was fun! i’ll probably do another month later on, it’s pretty time consuming.  So let’s take a look at Masters of the Universe: The Movie.

Plot: Skeletor has taken over Greyskull and captured the sorceress with the help of a time key made by an elf named Gwildor.  As He-Man tries to stop Skeletor with his own time key, they have to escape from a far off planet called EARTH! problems start there.

Characters:  The movie was made on a very low budget so a lot of the characters (especially the magic ones) are gone.  On the good guys side there is Man-At-Arms, Teela, He-Man, the Sorceress, and Gwildor (taking the place of Orko I guess)  Skeletor does better he has Evil-Lyn, Beastman, a new addition Blade, and two other boring ones.  Also on earth, He-Man runs into two teenagers played by Courteney Cox and some annoying guy.  Also the principal from Back to the Future is a detective in this.

Setting:  Eternia and Earth.  The production design and look of Eternia is awesome. It’s not as alien-like but the sets are amazing and fantastic.  I hate that they went to Earth so everything there just annoys me.

Things they got right:  The two leads are good.  Dolph Lundgren does a great job as He-Man and he makes him pretty memorable and awesome.  Skeletor is so amazing and I love him.  Evil-lyn plays a great second in command and she does just like I want her to.  Everyone else is wasted.

Things they got wrong: First the characters, alot of the characters are made to be in the background (especially Teela and Man-At-Arms) and the budget really hurt them.  Beastman doesn’t even talk for example.  I really think the crew didn’t know too much about He-Man.  Like there is a lizard guy but do they name him Kobra Khan or one of the many snakemen they have?  nope, he’s saurod. Like the Blade character says to He-Man, “I waited a long time for this” when they fight and thus gets the most back story ever.  Also Teela at one point says “Women-at-arms” which is just such a dumb statement i can’t even begin also I don’t know if they are related in this.  He-Man doesn’t become Adam, which I didn’t hate but just makes me ask why?  Also setting it on earth makes half the movie just another boring action film.

Overall: I like this film.  Mostly cause of the two leads and the Eternia parts.  I think if they had kept it on Eternia, more people could have gotten behind it. The earth parts give nothing to the story and it makes little sense.  He-Man has been to planets before but now when he gets to Earth, he hides.  Why?  Why wouldn’t he try to get help?  The movie just asks a lot of questions like that. It’s just so different but at least they tried.

Fun Fact:  When the movie ran out of budget, the director filmed the final fight scene in his garage.   So people did care about it, but I dont think they really watched that much of the show.

Alien Trivia:  The reactions in this scene are real.  They were given vague details of what would happen so everything you see is how they really felt!

I took my brother to see journey 2.  It was actually pretty good.  I think I liked it more for what it tried to do.  It didn’t go for dumb-downed jokes and worked with the 3-d and tried to be a real family-fun adventure by not catering to kids OR adults but for everyone.  Plus it had a multi-racial cast which is awesome. Also The Rock in 3-D was almost too much to handle lol. and i never noticed it before but Vanessa Hudgens is pretty attractive, maybe it was the 3rd dimesion.  I think it’s cause before she was either in a movie I didn’t care about or a movie that both asked too much and too little of her acting talents (I’m looking at you sucker punch)

Chronicle was a good movie but it’s hidden in a bad gimmick.  I think if you really have to stretch the whole found footage thing than maybe you shouldn’t use it.  But the acting and story save it.  Considering that the previews made it look pretty bad, I really liked it.  Worth a look!

I would be more inclined to join a gang if at the initiation they were like “Do you happen to have a shit-load of black and white make-up?  How about a baseball uniform?” That’s my kind of gang!
