Hello, my name is Andrew Jara. I am trying to be a writer/director. I made a film named "Last Days" that i'm trying to bring some press to.

Worst movies 2011

I’ve been meaning to put up my top ten movies but since I’m waiting to see warhorse (hopefully monday) I’ll put up my worst movies of the year!  After making a movie, I don’t really like to talk shit movies because I realize how hard they are and that’s someone’s work.  That being said these movies are ones that annoyed me for one reason or another.  These are in no real order but they are movies that just really made me mad! And remember film is subjective, you may love these movies and they are all well done so don’t take things so seriously! They are just my opinions.

RED STATE:  I just don’t think Kevin Smith knew what message he was wanting to convey.  He had a message I think but what was it?  It’s like he wanted to make a realistic horror film but didn’t know how. Also this is one of those horror films where it seems the director/writer is talking down to the horror community and I hate that.
SUPER: I will say that some of this was my fault.  I hate the “real” superhero genre like Kick ass but i had high hopes for this one because I love tim gunn and I really love Ellen Page.  But I hated HATED the message of this movie.  That violence and insanity is the answer to all problems.  I mean he gets someone killed violently and it’s brushed off! That would be fine in like iron man or an action movie but if your goal is to take a realistic approach you can’t just gloss over someone dying!  You can’t be “realistic” when you want and “regular” action movie when it helps the story.  You have to stick to one and that is why you fail.  Mind your surrounds.
The last one should be seen coming.
The Thing remake: I did not like this movie.  As a movie, it wasn’t the worst thing in the world but what it meant was terrible. I mean look at the poster. It’s CGI as if to say “we’re ruining things!”  Everything that John Carpenter’s The Thing did right, this movie did wrong.  John Carpenter’s The Thing is one of the greatest examples of a remake (the thing that came from another world) that is done well and takes elements but makes the story unique.  this movie is just the worst type of remake and no it’s not really a prequel.  It had forgettable dumb characters, bad cgi effects, no suspense or tension.  I really the director wanted to make Alien.  The thing does not stalk people in his alien form!  He does not just become alien in front of people!  That’s missing the whole point.  They didn’t really know how to do the whole “anyone could be the thing”  aspect and they should have just let this stay frozen!
Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Here is an Interview of my film “Last Days” on the radio show “On Film” with Charles Horak.  I talk about the premiere of the film and we both talk about the film and independent films in general.

Also hear me shamelessly compare my movie to “The Thing” so I can talk about the thing!

my favorite movie ever!  (yes i know it’s not really john carpenter’s the thing, but i can imagine)
