He-Man Month: Different Versions of Skeletor
For this week, let’s take a look at Skeletor as the series change. Before we start with the series, in the original cartoon Skeletor was like a race of skeletors whose motivation was that he wanted to bring his race of Skeletors. It was weird!
Facts: This is what I believe about Skeletor that I take with me as I watch everything. I always thought Skeletor used to be Keldor, Randor’s brother and Adam/He-Man’s uncle. l don’t know why I always thought it, it comes and goes lol. Also to me, Skeletor was always trained by Hordak. I read this in a book i still have so I always think that is fact. Okay let’s take a look:
Original Series: Here is the original Skeletor. He is once again the funniest but has the least backstory. It’s sometimes hinted at that he is King Randor’s brother (Adam’s uncle) but they never really touched on it. He was just evil and magical. His powers consists of him shooting things out of his magic staff but more so about knowing about evil or magic things. He was always behind things which made him much more evil especially cause he would attack He-Man from a psychological level.
New Adventures of He-Man: This Skeletor is alot different along with He-Man. Also kudos to the team for taking some major risks and this Skeletor is cool. Not my favorite but cool. He is a lot more cunning than the other one as his plans mostly involve a lot more schemes and trickery. Also the dynamic between him and the mutants is very cool. In the show, he aligns himself with these Mutants and gets them to think that he is a follower while he is also trying to take over. A much smarter take that’s cool. (I feel like i hate too much on this series, I like it but it’s just not as good)
Movie Skeletor: Okay, sit down. This is my favorite version of Skeletor! Of all the things they did wrong, the movie got this so right. He is deadly, magical, smart, cunning, and deadly. He also looks really cool. In this one, he only has one scheme but he is darker and much deadlier. He kills someone for failing him. so cool. Watch the movie if only for him. Okay i’ll expand on this more in the review this week!
2002 Series: This is the first time Keldor is front and center. Also the first that has a backstory for the character. Keldor was a warrior who betrayed Randor and started a revolution for the power of Eternia. He was trained in magic by Hordak so he is a great sorcerer. When fighting Randor, his face is burned and it’s not till years later that he comes back as Skeletor! This Skeletor is much more direct and fights hand-to-hand a lot more. He is also deadlier than before and is a really cool character.
All the skeletors are cool in their own way. Best villain ever!
